You are invited to get a taste of Dillman's with a 3 hour demo by Tom Lynch the day before his Watercolor Secrets Revealed workshop (teaching days September 20-23). The demo is ideal for local artists looking to dip their toes in taking a watercolor workshop at Dillman's.
The demo costs $30 (9:00AM - 12:00PM) and includes a 300# watercolor piece of paper for you to use. Minimum of 15 people. You are invited to
stay and paint in the studio on your own for an additional $15 (12:00PM - 4:00PM). Pack a lunch on your own, or call ahead to order a box lunch. Make an evening out of it and enjoy our
Wine and Appetizer Reception $11 (5-6:00PM)
and Buffet Dinner $25 (6-7:30PM).
Tom’s unique approach to analyzing and making suggestions for a
finished work of art is to ‘SHOW YOU’ WHAT, HOW and WHERE ~ to make
improvements on your paintings. In these sessions, Tom will demonstrate using a
color printout of your painting. You will get advice on composition, design, focal
point, value, color, theme and much more. You will then see how to make the
suggested changes. Viewing the 'before and after' will be a great learning
experience not only for your painting but also as you watch the same
transformation on the other students' paintings. These are not just casual
suggestions but rather live demonstrations for your artwork. As we talk about
taking your paintings to the next level, this class will have a profound and
immediate impact on your artwork. These sessions will be videotaped so that you
can watch and learn from them again.
Tom has been referred to as one of the nation’s premier watercolorists with over 39 years of experience. He has written eight books, and hosted several award winning PBS TV Art Series. He was recently listed as one of the nation’s “Top 20 Teachers” by a leading Art Magazine. Tom is represented by some of the nation’s leading Museums and Art Galleries. His paintings have garnered many awards, most recently for four U.S. Opens.
Some of his numerous awards include “Landscape Artist of the Year”, one of “America’s Top 20 Teachers”, two “Lifetime Achievement Awards”, the first American selected for Honorary Membership in the “Canadian Watercolor Society”; He has been awarded the “Best of Show” Honorable Mention at the Sedona Plein Air Festival; “Best Architectural Painting” at the Easton Plein Air Festival; and most recently “Honorable Mention” at Plein Air Richmond. Tom has been the featured artist for the men’s, women’s and seniors U.S. Open and several PGA/LPGA tournaments. It is no surprise that his paintings are included in public, private, and corporate collections around the world.
When considering subjects he tries to search for something striking; like the color of the sky, the direction of natural light, pattern of shadows, or the glint of sunlight on water. He then embellishes those striking features giving his art a truly dynamic appearance.
