Fall is the perfect time of year to put paint to paper, so much inspiration! Mindy’s goal is to share important lessons that enable students to build a successful painting from concept to finish. Mornings will be reserved for demonstrations and afternoons will be spent painting, incorporating some of the techniques used in the morning lessons. Patience, practice and a sense of humor are required. Weather permitting, an afternoon of outdoor painting is an option.
"I have always been surrounded by the trappings of an artist. My Mom was an illustrator and loved to paint so she encouraged me to join in while I was growing up. I studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design and later in Chicago at the American Academy of Art. It was at the Academy where I became fascinated with the magic of watercolor. The list of artists I admire is too long to list here, but many people have influenced my work. Everyone of the artists I have studied with has left a bit of their painting philosophy with me, that being one of the many reasons I find teaching so gratifying. My work is generally representational but I find myself moving to a more expressionistic style. I think the spontaneity of watercolor is better suited to capturing the immediate moment. I can’t say I prefer one subject over another, for me they all present a new opportunity. I’m best known for painting “underwater landscapes with freshwater gamefish.” That said, I ‘m always excited undertake a painting from the model or a local landscape. One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was to enjoy the journey. I am doing just that and hope my students do the same". - Melinda Schnell

2021 COVID Precautions
It is impossible to assess the impact, if any, of COVID-19 for the upcoming 2021 season, but all artists should be prepared to abide by the following measures while attending workshops.
- Participants must fill out a quick health questionnaire to make sure they do not exhibit any symptoms.
- Masks are required to be worn while in classrooms and shared spaces.
- Participants must also wash hands or use hand sanitizer at the beginning of each class and often during class sessions.
- Participants are required to stay 6 feet apart for social distancing protocols.
A floor plan per each of our three studios has been created to ensure that the artist tables and lecture area will allow people to socially distance themselves a minimum of 6 feet.
In lieu of crowding around the artist during demos, a desktop camera system and large format digital TV screens have been installed in each of the studios to allow students a close up view of demos.
We will be providing students with hand-sanitizer at their work stations. In addition, the studios will be closed for 1 hour in the late evenings for a daily UV sanitation and touch surface cleaning.
