This class will teach students of all skill levels to approach their drawing practice mindfully. Highlighting similarities between the practices of mindfulness meditation and observational drawing, Jaron will work with students to develop a patient, open approach to drawing their subjects. The class will focus on doing away with self-criticism while still maintaining artistic rigor as a way of developing a satisfying, lifelong
relationship with drawing.
Jaron Childs studied painting and photography at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in the US, UK, Italy, and Germany. In 2014 he was given a solo exhibition at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Childs’ paintings draw on photography’s relationship with memory to make inquiries about the place of humans in the natural world. In the quarterly journal ARTPULSE, critic Christina Schmid said of his work, “Ever so gently, Childs defies the delusions and discipline of art history’s magisterial gaze and insists on finding beauty in the humble minutiae of everyday moments and memories.” Childs resides in Tomahawk, Wisconsin.

2021 COVID Precautions
It is impossible to assess the impact, if any, of COVID-19 for the upcoming 2021 season, but all artists should be prepared to abide by the following measures while attending workshops.
- Participants must fill out a quick health questionnaire to make sure they do not exhibit any symptoms.
- Masks are required to be worn while in classrooms and shared spaces.
- Participants must also wash hands or use hand sanitizer at the beginning of each class and often during class sessions.
- Participants are required to stay 6 feet apart for social distancing protocols.
A floor plan per each of our three studios has been created to ensure that the artist tables and lecture area will allow people to socially distance themselves a minimum of 6 feet.
In lieu of crowding around the artist during demos, a desktop camera system and large format digital TV screens have been installed in each of the studios to allow students a close up view of demos.
We will be providing students with hand-sanitizer at their work stations. In addition, the studios will be closed for 1 hour in the late evenings for a daily UV sanitation and touch surface cleaning.
