Impressionistic Watercolor
from Flowers to Figures

August 29-Sept 3, 2021 (Four Teaching Days)

Fresh flowers in the studio will greet artists for the beginning of this dynamic and energetic workshop to focus on creating colors in a fun, intuitive and spontaneous way – resulting in building confidence when faced with painting people. Janet will provide drawing helps to enable all levels to be comfortable as we move into painting the head and figure. NO FEAR!!! Then we will experience the joy of flowing on colors to produce unexpected color movement – from life and photos. Some of our goals – capturing the gesture of our subjects, discovering design, exciting flesh tones, avoiding mud, overwhelming areas, and keeping the whites in our paintings. Having an opportunity to work from a model for a short period will be a highlight!!! You can take home photos to work from as well as this invaluable experience! Janet is a passionate instructor who values giving individual help as well as demonstrating different approaches and connecting with the goals of the artists to create spontaneous and fresh watercolors!

ARTIST’S STATEMENT: “I love the qualities of Watercolor – its fluid nature. To me the interaction of artist and the medium is like a dance – full of motion, feeling and expression. I love to watch the painting develop and to discover new color and composition. – As an instructor, I would like to enable students to find their connections with watercolor in a new and expressive direction.” Janet Rogers, AWS

2021 COVID Precautions

It is impossible to assess the impact, if any, of COVID-19 for the upcoming 2021 season, but all artists should be prepared to abide by the following measures while attending workshops.

  1. Participants must fill out a quick health questionnaire to make sure they do not exhibit any symptoms.
  2. Masks are required to be worn while in classrooms and shared spaces.
  3. Participants must also wash hands or use hand sanitizer at the beginning of each class and often during class sessions.
  4. Participants are required to stay 6 feet apart for social distancing protocols.

A floor plan per each of our three studios has been created to ensure that the artist tables and lecture area will allow people to socially distance themselves a minimum of 6 feet.
In lieu of crowding around the artist during demos, a desktop camera system and large format digital TV screens have been installed in each of the studios to allow students a close up view of demos.
We will be providing students with hand-sanitizer at their work stations. In addition, the studios will be closed for 1 hour in the late evenings for a daily UV sanitation and touch surface cleaning.
