Have you ever wondered how to Loosen-Up your painting style? Paint with more Freedom? Be more Spontaneous? Be more Expressive? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this workshop is for you! David will teach you how to utilize intuition and spontaneity to move beyond the realm of representational painting to produce abstract work that is bold, colorful, and personally expressive. There will also be an emphasis on composition design that will serve as the foundation for your art making. Shape, value, color, edges and center of interest will all be discussed and demonstrated in depth. Learning to paint spontaneously from the heart with an underpinning of design will help you create paintings that have great shapes, rich values, and pure colors. Each day will be a fast-paced, fun-filled adventure in painting that you will not want to miss as we paint bigger, faster, fresher and looser!
This workshop is intended for all skill levels. David will be painting in acrylics, but this workshop is non media specific. All who utilize watercolor, acrylic, pastel and oil are welcome.
David is a contemporary abstract painter, workshop instructor, author of the book “Bigger, Faster, Fresher, Looser Abstract Painting Workbook,” and founder of Abstract Painting Academy and Visual Arts Business Academy. David has always favored a loose, colorful approach to painting and his work is inspired by both his love of color and the world around him: the sights and sounds of the city, the quiet stillness of the forest, the beauty of the landscape, the change of seasons, the rhythmic pounding of the ocean. He has the ability to take his emotional responses to these stimuli and transfer them to canvas utilizing an approach born from his love of design.
David spent 28 years practicing architecture after receiving his architecture degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His painting career developed simultaneously with his architecture career. It became clear to David that his love and passion for teaching others far outweighed his love of architecture, so he gave up designing buildings and hit the road as a workshop instructor. His Bigger, Faster, Fresher, Looser Workshops have been taught from coast to coast.
David’s award winning paintings are housed in corporate and institutional collections in North Carolina and private collections worldwide. He works from his studio in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
