Lois Griffel

Painting the Impressionist Landscape

Sept 3-7, 2018 (Four Teaching Days) Monday Arrival

Lois Griffel’s workshops are based on her books, Painting the Impressionist Landscape and Painting Impressionist Color. The workshop focuses on interpreting light effects of nature into color. Emphasis is on color perception, with attention to design and composition. Using an Impressionist color palette, Lois guides students to free themselves from old habits while encouraging greater visual awareness. The workshops are informal and fun, but be prepared to learn a lot and work hard too!

Lois' paintings have won awards throughout the United States. She recently received the honor of becoming a Master Artist of the American Impressionist Society. She is one of only a handful of artists that can sign AISM on her paintings. Lois' classes are open to artists of all levels, & mediums; the workshops are informal and fun. However, she likes to warn everyone to be prepared to learn a lot and work hard too!

Quote from the book, Painting the Impressionist Landscape — “ The thrill and challenge of standing before nature with all of her variety and beauty, is a humbling reminder that we must ever remain a student. Each painting can bring new answers to understanding light, revealing more of nature’s secrets."

Lois was included in the 25th anniversary edition of Cape Cod Life Magazine, receiving the honor of being included in the list of “ the 400 most influential people in the history of Cape Cod, past and present.” Her first book, Painting the Impressionist Landscape was published by Watson-Guptill Publications in NYC in 1994. It has been translated into Chinese and is now in paperback. She recently published her second book,Painting Impressionist Color and has having produced a series of three teaching DVD’s. She has been featured in The Artist’s Magazine, The Boston Globe, American Art Review and the New York Times and authored articles for American Artist Magazine. Her paintings have appeared on two American Artists Magazine covers, including the supplement Color for the Oil Painter.
