Everyone wants to create a nice piece of artwork though it seems composition is the main stumbling block. In this workshop we will first work in a sketchbook with magazine papers exploring the process of how some compositions work and others don’t. Students can work in an abstract or realistic style, developing strategies to break through creative blocks with basic design skills. Emphasis on personal visual style will be encouraged. The process of paper palette making will be explored with surface techniques using acrylics, and mixed media on a variety of papers. Students use their own sketches as inspiration with the paper they have made to substrates of watercolor paper, canvas and wood panels. This process evolves into a study and series of your own artmaking potential. Application of all collage papers to the variety of substrates will be done with the fusion of heat by the tack iron method of collaging. Mixed media will be woven into the layers of paper sharing rich abstract storylines.
