Exploring Watercolor for Beginners & Intermediates

June 11-16, 2017 (Four Teaching Days)

Come explore the unique techniques and fluidity of watercolor. In this watercolor workshop demonstration and examples of various techniques will be daily allowing you to experiment along the way through small studies. Our discussions of materials, brushes and paints, papers, will be just a part of exploring the whole process of accessing your creativity juices.

Our four days will be divided into the studies of rivers, water and pathways, roads and big skies and clouds, and trees so bring your reference material to use as guides along the painting path. We will be applying glazes, pouring watercolor, and studying negative shapes and color mixing. Some still life or outside study may be a small part of the workshop.

Come and have fun, open up your creativity and explore the exciting freedom of watercolor. This class is for beginners as well as intermediate painters. The more you paint and PLAY the more your inner creativity comes out. Come and paint, there will be a lot of freedom for exploration in this class.

Susan is a self-taught artist, enjoying the process of painting in mixed media of watercolor, handmade
papers, and acrylic. A life long, full time artist, Susan has had a studio-gallery for over 20 years and now
shares a full time schedule of teaching workshops in both North Carolina and Michigan. She shares her
style of accessing the creativity juices with fundraisers, art leagues, gallery demos, Understanding the
whole painting process is what helps make our paintings sing, it is available to all of us.

Susan’s paintings reflect the beauty and magic of the Smokey Mountains that surround her home. Her paintings could be described as realism through an artist’s eye. The nature of her work, collaging with paper or mica from the earth, or mixing media, pouring watercolor, all allows for free expression and play, and experimentation. "It's like dancing in the freedom of creativity," Susan says.

Susan receives additional inspiration from traveling with her husband, kayaking the bright and beautiful waters of Michigan and Florida, walking among the trees and pathways of nature.
