Textures in Nature - Alternative Surfaces

May 20-25, 2017 (Four Teaching Days)

This class is an exploration into acrylics. You will be working with gels and pastes to develop rich and gritty surfaces to the transparent meanders of gloss mediums. Whether adding texture to your figurative work or going into abstraction, you will build a vocabulary of textures and surfaces during the class. From patinas to dimensional tree bark to painted wood grains, you will explore a variety of mixed media including making latex molds to cast our acrylics in. You will also paint on Plexiglas, aluminum, sticks to add depths and interest.

Sandie Bacon is a versatile artist whose work explores many mediums. With a classical education and background in life drawing/painting, she also challenges herself to work with murals, collaborative sculptures and more.
