Mary Mendla

Opening to Abstraction: An Art Retreat in Acrylic and Mixed Media

June 18-23, 2017 (Four Teaching Days)

Explore ways of opening yourself to thinking, visualizing, and creating abstractly in this fun filled painting workshop. This four-day workshop will cover techniques to create abstract paintings in acrylic and mixed media as you open to working more spontaneously and intuitively. You will learn how to abstract from an image, how to create strong compositions, and to use color theory to elevate mood and emotion in your paintings. New methods of working, and non-traditional tools and materials will help you to resolve and advance your work through mixed media approaches. You will build confidence and learn how to look within to find new ways to discover and express your own creative voice. All of the Wisconsin northwoods beauty will be your inspiration.

A basic knowledge of painting with acrylics, including various acrylic mediums, is necessary for this class. Basic painting and drawing techniques will not be covered. A variety of mixed media products will be provided for your use to experiment with as you expand the creative possibilities in your painting. You will leave the workshop with new skills to paint more abstractly from your own authentic voice.
