Watercolor Impressions Faces & Figures from Life & Photos

Aug 20-25, 2017 (Four Teaching Days)

This dynamic and energetic workshop is designed for students of all levels to build skills and confidence while learning this loose and spontaneous approach to painting people. Through a series of “fun” exercises, we will learn to “see” in order to understand and interpret faces and figures (including children). Beginning with photos, we will learn to enjoy the process of flowing on colors to produce unexpected color movement and discovering translucent and beautiful flesh tones. Then progressing to the live model, we will discover how to capture the gesture and “life” in our paintings in a process that can be applied to painting from photos. Some of the many areas to be covered will be discovering exciting flesh tones, and changing colors to enhance movement, avoiding mud, and keeping the whites!

Many demos, individual attention, as well as “Show and Tell” will carry us through an adventuresome painting process that is direct, intuitive and impressionistic. Janet will have helps for anyone new to drawing and painting people… so NO FEAR! Capturing a child in watercolor will also be part of this very special workshop. All levels welcome.  We will be able to paint from a live model also -  which will enable us to experience the wonderful inspiration and immediacy of this experience.

Janet is known for her passion for teaching as well as her passion for watercolors! Janet is a nationally recognized artist and instructor, conducting workshops all over the United States and in Europe, and is a Signature member of the American Watercolor Society, Florida Watercolor Society, South Carolina Watermedia Society, as well as others, winning many awards for her paintings. ARTIST’S STATEMENT: “I love the qualities of watercolor – its fluid nature. To me, the interaction of artist with the medium is like a dance – full of motion, feeling and expression. I love to watch the painting develop and to discover new color and composition. ”As a teacher, I would like to enable students to find their connections with watercolor in a new and expressive way.” Janet Rogers, AWS.
